Stone and Earth: Edward Cohen Memorial Concert

This memorial to Edward Cohen, the MIT composer and senior lecturer, centers on his 1978 Stone and Earth for mezzo-soprano and string orchestra, sung by Krista River under his longtime collaborator David Hoose. Colleagues and students supply three premieres: Charles Shadle's Song of Removal, a new Marjorie Merryman work and the orchestral version of John Harbison's Four Encores for Stan, with River narrating. Peter Child's 1998 Sinfonietta closes.

MIT Symphony Orchestra: Bad Behavior

The MIT Symphony Orchestra opens its season under Adam Boyles with a programme of hooligans, pranksters and troublemakers: Saint-Saëns's Phaéton, Chadwick's Hobgoblin, Prokofiev's suite from Lieutenant Kijé, the overture to Mozart's Don Giovanni and three excerpts from Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel.
