The Apollo Ensemble of Boston and music director Elias Miller give the world premiere of a new work by Yangfan Xu, a Juilliard graduate and doctoral candidate at New England Conservatory whose music has been played by the New Jersey Symphony and New York City Ballet. Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony, written in Dresden a decade after the failure of his First, follows. The dress rehearsal the night before is open.
Sun Apr 25 · 4:30pm
A programme titled for Carlos Simon's Fate Now Conquers, which takes its text from a line Beethoven copied into his journal. It sits alongside the ballet music from Mozart's Idomeneo, Haydn's D major Cello Concerto with soloist Jonah Ellsworth, and Beethoven's Eighth Symphony.
Sat May 8 · 7:30pm
Violinist Amaryn Olmeda is the soloist in Mendelssohn's E minor Concerto, framed by Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and Schumann's Second Symphony — the symphony he finished while recovering from a long breakdown. The Apollo Ensemble opens its dress rehearsal the night before.
Sat May 22 · 7:30pm
Violinist Keila Wakao and cellist Leland Ko, both returning to the Apollo Ensemble, are the soloists in Brahms's Double Concerto, his last orchestral work. Ko took Third Prize at the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition and First Prize at the 2024 Naumburg; Wakao won the Menuhin Competition and made her BSO debut at its 2024 Opening Night Gala. Strauss's Don Juan opens, and the 1919 Firebird suite closes.
