An hour of choral music for Christmas at the Church of the Redeemer, part of a concert series the church runs through its own calendar. The Church of the Redeemer Choir sings Kenneth Leighton’s Crucifixus pro nobis, a 1961 cantata for tenor, chorus and organ setting 17th-century Passion poems by Patrick Carey and Phineas Fletcher, as a Palm Sunday choral meditation. Leighton, the English composer who held the Reid chair of music at the University of Edinburgh from 1970, wrote extensively for Anglican choirs. Admission is free, with a suggested donation.
Fri Apr 30 · 7:00pm
Jeremy Filsell, the English organist and pianist, divides a Debussy and Rachmaninov programme between the church’s 2018 Schoenstein organ and the piano. Filsell became organist and director of music at St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York in 2019. The concert is free, with a suggested donation, and a reception follows.
