Sat Oct 24 · 4pm, First Parish of Sudbury / Sun Oct 25 · 4pm, Old South Church (Boston)

A programme traced through teacher-to-student lineages: a trio sonata by Zachow, Handel's teacher, and an aria by J.C. Smith, Handel's student; string pieces by Kirnberger and Goldberg, both students of J.S. Bach; a flute sonata by Anna Amalia, Kirnberger's pupil; and arias by Porpora, Haydn's teacher, and Marianna Martines, Haydn's student. Guest soprano Corrine Byrne joins the period-instrument ensemble. The Boston performance is livestreamed.

Sat Dec 5 · 4pm, Church of the Covenant (Boston) / Sun Dec 6 · 4pm, First Unitarian Church (Worcester)

Musicians of the Old Post Road and the early-music choir Convivium Musicum pair two country-church traditions on both sides of the Atlantic: the fuguing tunes of early American singing, and the West Gallery style of rural English parishes, along with early arrangements of familiar seasonal tunes and instrumental works. As a close to the 250th anniversary of American independence, the programme includes music by some of the region's earliest composers.

Sat Mar 6 · 4pm, First Parish in Wayland / Sun Mar 7 · 4pm, Old South Church (Boston)

Baroque composers from across Europe went to Rome to study the Italian expressive style, and this programme gathers music by several who did, among them Handel, G. Benda, Muffat, Bononcini and Froberger, in quartets, trios, duos and solos. Musicians of the Old Post Road is a Boston-area period-instrument ensemble whose repertoire runs from the Baroque to the early Romantic, with an emphasis on rediscovered works.

Classical Kaleidoscope

Sat Apr 17 · 4pm, Museum of Worcester / Sun Apr 18 · 4pm, Emmanuel Church (Boston)

Chamber music for period winds and strings: a septet by Johann Nisle, an overlooked contemporary of Beethoven, alongside the regional premieres of a quintet by Andreas Lidl and a sextet by Johann Andreas Amon, two composers Haydn admired. Guests Thomas Carroll, clarinet, Allen Hamrick, bassoon, and Elisabeth Axtell, horn, join the flute and strings of Musicians of the Old Post Road, a period-instrument ensemble that specialises in rediscovered repertoire.
