Jessie Liu, president of the desktop laser-fabrication company xTool, talks about how laser engraving and printing have come to complement 3D printing. In five years xTool has gone from one laser source to four (blue diode, infrared, CO₂ and ultraviolet), each suited to different materials such as wood, metal, glass and leather. MIT researchers and artists who use the tools show their work, and a reception follows.
