Shakespeare's comedy of shipwreck and mistaken identity, directed by Steve Dooner. Dickens published the novella in 1843 and it is often credited with fixing the shape of the modern holiday: Ebenezer Scrooge, three spirits and one night in industrial London, told as a ghost story and a piece of social argument at the same time. Mass Arts Center plays evenings at 7:30pm with weekend matinees.
Fri Jan 22 – Sun Feb 7
Sondheim wrote almost the entire score in three-quarter time, sending several badly matched couples to a country weekend for a retired courtesan to sort out. It contains Send in the Clowns, written overnight for an actress who could not sustain long phrases.
Fri Mar 19 – Sun Apr 4
A distant heir to an earldom works his way through the eight relatives standing between him and the title, with one actor playing all eight. Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak's musical won the 2014 Tony for Best Musical. It is adapted from the same novel as the film Kind Hearts and Coronets.
