Janáček's String Quartet No. 1, written in 1923 and titled after Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata about a jealous husband, is paired with Beethoven's Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op. 59 No. 2, one of three quartets for Count Razumovsky. Peter Zazofsky, a Montreal Competition winner and Muir Quartet member, and BSO violinist Tatiana Dimitriades play violins, with BSO violist Danny Kim and cellist Jonathan Miller.

Beethoven's E minor Quartet, Op. 59 No. 2, written for Count Razumovsky, the Russian ambassador in Vienna, and quoting a Russian folk tune, shares the programme with Janáček's First Quartet of 1923, which takes its title and its story of jealousy from Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata. The players are violinists Peter Zazofsky and Tatiana Dimitriades, violist Danny Kim and cellist Jonathan Miller, the ensemble's artistic director.

Mozart's String Quartet No. 17 in B-flat, K.458, nicknamed the “Hunt” for its horn-call opening and one of the six he dedicated to Haydn, precedes the G minor String Quintet, K.516, of 1787, which adds a second viola. BSO violinists Bracha Malkin and Tatiana Dimitriades play with violists Rebecca Gitter and Danny Kim, also of the BSO, and cellist Jonathan Miller.

The programme is all Mozart: the G minor String Quintet, K.516, completed in 1787 and scored with two violas, and the B-flat Quartet, K.458, known as the “Hunt” and one of six quartets Mozart dedicated to Haydn. Bracha Malkin, a Wieniawski and Paganini competition prizewinner, and Tatiana Dimitriades play violins; Rebecca Gitter and Danny Kim play viola, and artistic director Jonathan Miller cello.

Dvořák's String Quartet No. 14 in A-flat, Op. 105, begun in New York and finished in 1895 after his return to Bohemia, was the last he completed. It is paired with Mendelssohn's Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13, written at eighteen and built on his own song “Ist es wahr?”. Violinists Lucia Lin and Kina Park join violist Rebecca Gitter and cellist Jonathan Miller.

Mendelssohn wrote his A minor Quartet, Op. 13, in 1827 at eighteen, weaving in his own song “Ist es wahr?”; Dvořák's A-flat Quartet, Op. 105, sketched in America and completed in 1895, was the last he finished. Lucia Lin, a BSO violinist and Tchaikovsky Competition prizewinner, plays with violinist Kina Park, BSO violist Rebecca Gitter and cellist Jonathan Miller, the ensemble's founder.

Schubert's “Trout” Quintet, D.667, scored with double bass and named for its variations on his song “Die Forelle”, follows Schumann's Five Pieces in Folk Style, Op. 102, for cello and piano, and Brahms's Viola Sonata in E-flat, Op. 120 No. 2, originally for clarinet. Pianist Benjamin Hochman, an Avery Fisher Career Grant winner, joins Lucia Lin, Rebecca Gitter, Jonathan Miller and BSO bassist Carl Anderson.
