Missa Solemnis
Edward Elwyn Jones, Harvard's director of choral activities, conducts Beethoven's Missa solemnis in D major, Op. 123, with the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus and Masterworks Chorale, together some 200 voices, four vocal soloists and Pro Arte. Beethoven began the mass in 1819 for the installation of his pupil and patron Archduke Rudolph as Archbishop of Olmütz and finished it in 1823, three years after the ceremony.
