Where Are You From? Where Are You Really From? Media, Belonging, and Creating Home in Unlikely Places
Azeta Hatef, associate professor of journalism studies at Emerson College, looks at how the shows, news and characters people see shape the way they answer “Where are you really from?”, what on-screen representation does and does not do, and how media connects people to distant or ancestral homes. Her research centres on media and Afghanistan, including how U.S. news covers Afghan women and how Afghans appear in American pop culture.
