First Friday: WPA and Today, the Enduring Legacy of the New Deal in Beverly
Historic Beverly's monthly First Friday programme looks at what the Works Progress Administration, created in 1935 under Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal to put millions of Depression-era Americans to work on public projects, left behind in Beverly. The talk follows WPA work on Beverly Airport and the construction of Beverly Reservoir, both still in use, and how the national campaign against unemployment shaped the city's infrastructure.
