The Battle of a Thousand Slain, 1791: How a Grand Coalition of Native Peoples Defeated Most of the United States Army
Dan Breen gives this Somerville Museum Tavern Talk on the 1791 battle also known as St. Clair's Defeat, when a coalition of Native nations routed a U.S. expedition sent into the Ohio country to assert federal authority over the Shawnee and Miami. Breen looks at the causes of what the museum calls “one of the 18th century's greatest examples of determined native resistance,” an episode rarely taught in textbooks.
