Brendan Donovan discusses his debut memoir HappySad: Getting Over the One That Got Away, which follows him from falling in love and getting engaged at 27 through depression, addiction and recovery, “from therapy and The Biggest Loser to opioids and everything in between.” Donovan is a Boston special education teacher who was a contestant on the show in 2010, and he self-published the book.

Sherbrooke discusses her fourth novel, This Much is True, in which a veterinarian on her fifty-eighth birthday recognises her daughter’s future father-in-law from “an incident during high school that changed the trajectory of her life.” Sherbrooke’s Leaving Coy’s Hill was a New York Times notable book and a Massachusetts Book Award finalist, and she chaired GrubStreet’s board. Family counselor and novelist Lynne Reeves Griffin joins her.
