John Patrick's 1950 comedy follows Mrs. Savage, a widow left $10 million by her husband who means to give it away to people pursuing their "foolish dreams." Her stepchildren have her committed to a sanatorium called The Cloisters, and among its gentle residents she finds her true family, the play setting their kindness and loyalty against the greed of so-called "normal people."
