Piece by Piece: Crazy Quilting and Making Memory in 19th-Century Massachusetts, with Tenesha Carter Johnson
Tenesha Carter Johnson, a curator and cultural historian of American quilts and textiles, looks at the crazy quilts popular by the late nineteenth century, pieced from wedding silk, fair ribbons and dress scraps, and at how ordinary women turned them into "personal archives." Johnson studied at Spelman College and Bard Graduate Center. The talk belongs to the 2026 Lowell Lecture Series on craft in Massachusetts and is livestreamed.
