L'Armonia Boston opens its season at Gore Place with music of 1806 — the year the Gore family moved into their new Waltham house and Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, the 'Spanish Mozart', was born — paired with Beethoven, on period instruments.

My First Cassette Tape: Vivaldi & Boccherini

Guy Fishman, L'Armonia Boston's artistic director and principal cellist of the Handel and Haydn Society, plays cello concertos by Vivaldi and Boccherini, the music on a cassette his first teacher gave him that drew him to the cello and to baroque music. Boccherini was nicknamed "the Devil" for his own cello playing. Renée Hemsing and Susanna Ogata are the violin soloists, joined by players from NEC's Pratt Early Music Program.

Destare le Passioni: Music to Rouse the Passions

Elisa Citterio, the Italian baroque violinist and former leader of Toronto's Tafelmusik, makes her Boston-area debut directing L'Armonia Boston in a programme she curated from across 17th- and 18th-century Europe: music written to depict particular passions in sound and to stir them in the listener. Players from New England Conservatory's Pratt Early Music Program join the ensemble.

Violinist Shunske Sato and fortepianist Shuann Chai, making their Boston debut, play a Beethoven sonata for violin and piano, then join L'Armonia Boston for Schumann's Piano Quintet (1842), the work Brahms and Dvořák later followed with quintets of their own. Chai plays R.J. Regier's copy of an 1830s Austrian fortepiano. Sato, a period and modern violinist, is known for his Bach recordings with the Netherlands Bach Society.
