The book moves between his life and the word's long use, and the shop presents it as a hybrid rather than a straight biography.

DotStories, an LGBTQ+ storytelling series that DotOut* presents for Dorchester's LGBTQIA+ community and its allies, meets on the third Thursday of each month around a theme; this month's is all things mystical. Kacie King and Juanita Cox curate the evening. No storytelling or public-speaking experience is needed to join in, nobody is obliged to speak, and anyone of any age, background or belief is welcome.

G’Ra Asim reads from his essay collection, drawing on “pop music, TV, literature, internet culture, Black feminist thought” and his romantic misadventures to examine what blocks lasting connection. His band Uppity, whose EP Code Ditching is a companion to the book, performs between reading and conversation. Asim teaches English at Washington University in St. Louis; his debut, Boyz n the Void, was a Kirkus best nonfiction book of 2021.

Anne Habiby discusses Daring to Hope: Witness From Gaza, which chronicles the war on Gaza through thousands of real-time messages between her and Mohammed Balah, the footballer known as the "Ronaldo of Gaza," who moved his family of fifteen between shelters in 2023–24. Habiby, a Palestinian American economist, co-founded AllWorld Network and spent a decade as economist to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

Holmes discusses Black Messiahs, which follows two Black American soldiers and a young Jewish Holocaust survivor whose lives intersect during the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, asking "what happens when the struggle against fascism abroad collides with the fight for equality at home?" Holmes is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who worked as a reporter and editor at Time, the New York Times and CNN.

Franny Choi discusses We Radiant Things, their first essay collection, which blends lyric memoir and cultural criticism to ask "what sci-fi representations of Asian femmes reveal about race, gender, sexuality, disability, labor, technology, and language." Choi, who teaches literature at Bennington College, is the author of the poetry collections Soft Science and The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On. Writer Maria Pinto joins them in conversation.
