Yoichi Udagawa conducts the orchestra and the Cape Ann Symphony Chorus, led by Brittany Betts, who succeeded her mother Wendy Betts after sixteen seasons as its director. The programme runs from Leroy Anderson's Christmas Festival and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker selections to Custer's Chanukah Festival, Holcomb's Festive Sounds of Hannukah and Rutter's What Sweeter Music, and ends with an audience sing-along. Christmas on Broadway is played in Ipswich only.
A Musicians Unleashed chamber concert of music by women composers, among them Beach, Coleman, Franc and Hoover. It is the second of three concerts in the series during the Cape Ann Symphony's 75th season, between an October string programme and an April brass concert. Yoichi Udagawa, the orchestra's music director, conducts.
Pianist Michael Lewin, whose recordings have won a Grammy and whose career began with top prizes at the Franz Liszt International Competition and the William Kapell competition, plays Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Gottschalk's Grande Tarantelle. Yoichi Udagawa conducts a programme that opens with Copland's An Outdoor Overture and closes with Grofé's five-movement Grand Canyon Suite, from “Sunrise” to “Cloudburst”.
A brass programme, the last of three Musicians Unleashed chamber concerts in the Cape Ann Symphony's 75th season, following an October concert for strings and a February programme of music by women composers. Yoichi Udagawa, the orchestra's music director, conducts.
The orchestra closes its 75th season with the world premiere of a new work by the local composer Robert J. Bradshaw, commissioned for the anniversary, followed by Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, the “Choral,” first heard in Vienna in 1824, whose finale sets Schiller's “Ode to Joy” for four vocal soloists and chorus. Music director Yoichi Udagawa conducts.
