BMOP Presents Delight of the Muses

· · 30 Gainsborough St · · · ·

A programme built around text and the singing voice across a century of American writing. Anthony De Ritis opens with Jiggedy Jingle Jaunty; soprano Julia Bullock then joins the orchestra for Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and a selection from Matthew Aucoin's opera The No One's Rose.

JFK

· · 30 Gainsborough St · · · ·

David T. Little and Royce Vavrek's opera imagines the last night John and Jacqueline Kennedy spent in Fort Worth before Dallas. Rather than staging the history, it moves through dream states — mythic Fates guide the couple into visions mixing memory and fantasy — and holds them at the edge of what is about to happen.

BMOP Presents Aftertones of Infinity

· · 30 Gainsborough St · · · ·

Joseph Schwantner's Aftertones of Infinity, which won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Music, opens a programme of four American scores, two of them built around the saxophone. Timothy McAllister is the soloist in Tyshawn Sorey's Adagio, the saxophone concerto that won Sorey the 2024 Pulitzer, and returns after the interval for Paul Moravec's Saxophone Concerto. Moravec won the Pulitzer in 2004 for Tempest Fantasy.

Be Glad Then America

· · · ·

John La Montaine’s pageant for narrator, solo voices, chorus and orchestra, written for the American Bicentennial, draws on historical texts for a portrait of the nation’s founding, moving “between reflection and celebration.” Its original 1976 production was conceived and directed by Sarah Caldwell. The title is shared with an anthem by William Billings. BMOP revives it for America’s 250th anniversary.
