Spirited Connections
Janet Rich Edwards’s Canticle follows a 16-year-old in 13th-century Bruges who flees an arranged marriage for a community of religious women; in Julie Carrick Dalton’s The Forest Becomes Her, women in Concord fight to save a forest’s last oak; and in Libbie Grant’s The Ended World, a sentient AI connects an ex-nun, an atheist programmer and a medieval saint. Rachel Barenbaum, novelist and host of NHPR’s Check This Out, moderates.
