Lectures on Tap — Surviving the Extremes: From the Deep Ocean to Space
Dr. Malica Schmidt explains how people are kept alive where nature leaves almost no margin for error, from deep water, mountaintops and polar regions to spacecraft. Her subject is life support: supplying oxygen, removing carbon dioxide, managing pressure, conserving water and providing food. She draws on research from parabolic flights and the International Space Station, and on her own work as a technical diver, high-altitude mountaineer and analog astronaut.
