Temptation Harbour (1947)
Robert Newton plays a dockworker at a Channel port who pockets a bag of money left behind when two criminals fight to the death, an act that changes the course of his life. Lance Comfort's 1947 adaptation of Georges Simenon's novel Newhaven-Dieppe, with Simone Simon and William Hartnell, recalls French Poetic Realism. Shown from a British Film Institute DCP in Great Expectations: British Postwar Cinema, 1945–1960.
