Lectures on Tap — An Archaeologist's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse
Archaeologist Jakob W. Sedig looks at moments that could have ended the human line and did not: a genetic bottleneck in an ancestral species some 800,000 years ago, the Toba supervolcano eruption 70,000 years ago, solar storms recorded in tree rings, and a century-long drought in the US Southwest. Sedig, a senior archaeologist at Chronicle Heritage, was a postdoctoral fellow in Harvard Medical School's ancient-DNA Reich Lab.
