El Topo
Alejandro Jodorowsky wrote, directed and stars in El Topo (1970) as a gunfighter and mystic who crosses the desert with his six-year-old son to defeat four sharpshooting rivals, in an allegory that mixes the western with Zen Buddhism and the Bible. Its screenings at New York's Elgin Theater, endorsed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, set off the midnight-movie craze. Shown on 35mm for Cult Cinema Tuesdays.
