MIT Music Tech Speaker Series: Andrew McPherson
Andrew McPherson, Professor of Design Engineering and Music at Imperial College London, talks on Enacted, not Extracted: Designing and Performing with Music-Analytical Concepts, arguing that a preoccupation with language about music risks reinforcing clichés and cultural stereotypes in instrument design. An MIT graduate in music and electrical engineering, he leads Imperial's Augmented Instruments Laboratory and built the magnetic resonator piano, an electromagnetically augmented grand used in dozens of compositions.
