The Mountain Unearthed: Uncanny Geological Futures in a Mongolian Mining Town
Cultural anthropologist Jessica Madison Pískatá lectures on two “monstrous forms” of Mongolia’s mineral boom, the spoil heap and the leach mine, reading them through Freud’s 1919 account of the uncanny. Pískatá, who holds a poetry MFA from the New School, studies poetic practice and geology on eastern Mongolia’s Dariganga Volcanic Field and is now working on uranium extraction sites in Mongolia and Czechia.
