Writing the Nation after Stalin: Literature and the Collapse of the Soviet Union
Erin Hutchinson discusses her book of the same name, published by Oxford University Press, which shows how intellectuals of rural origin shaped the growth of nationalism in the Soviet Union after Stalin's death. Drawing on fresh archival material, Hutchinson traces how these rural migrants “navigated the complicated world of Soviet cultural politics and pushed for change despite harsh censorship.” The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute hosts the hybrid talk.
