In Julie Gerstenblatt’s The Stargazer of Nantucket a daughter stows away on her parents’ 1851 merchant voyage; Ethan Rutherford’s North Sun, a National Book Award finalist, follows an 1878 New Bedford whaler to the Chukchi Sea; and in Ashton Lattimore’s Runner a young Black woman takes over her shipwrecked father’s rum-running business.
