Timnit Gebru discusses her new book Deep Unlearning, part memoir and part manifesto, which traces her path from fleeing the 1998 Ethiopian-Eritrean war through high school in Greater Boston, Stanford, Apple and Google, where she was forced out after raising the alarm about bias in large language models. Gebru is founder and executive director of the Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research (DAIR) Institute.
