Bullitt (1968)
Steve McQueen plays the laconic detective in Peter Yates's 1968 Bullitt, best known for its car chase through real San Francisco streets; the film moves between bursts of action and McQueen's cool restraint, from an Embarcadero flophouse to a Pacific Heights mansion. It opens Visions of a City, or A Weekend in San Francisco, on 35mm, preceded by Lawrence Jordan's 16mm portrait of Beat poet Michael McClure.
