[ENVS] Community-based scaling for innovations in sustainability

Juliette Rooney-Varga, professor of environmental science at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, uses an interactive model of community-based scaling to show when the strategy is needed, how it works and why it can work better than outreach, advertising or word of mouth in spreading sustainability solutions. Examples come from sustainability education, regenerative agriculture and political movements, drawing on the model she and colleagues described in 2024.
