Food, Risk, and the Field: Perspectives on Health and Livelihoods Across Africa
Katharine Thompson, a medical and environmental anthropologist, draws on ethnographic and mixed-methods research in Madagascar and Nigeria to examine how food insecurity, economic pressures and zoonotic disease risk meet in everyday life. Three studies cover wild food and household food security, who gains and who bears the risks in wild meat economies, and human–rodent interactions. She also discusses her NSF-funded work on making fieldwork safer and more ethical.
