· · 143 Essex Street · · ·

Jeff Jarvis discusses Hot Type, his history of how the Linotype typesetting machine “upended 400 years of setting type by hand,” in a day co-hosted with the Museum of Printing. After lunch the event moves to the museum, where Jarvis and Chris Bradford demonstrate a working Linotype. Jarvis, founding managing editor of Entertainment Weekly and emeritus professor at CUNY’s Newmark journalism school, wrote The Gutenberg Parenthesis.
