Dennis J. Curran, a retired justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, looks at Abraham Lincoln's leadership: how, as a politician, he mastered communication and compromise, and how, as a leader, he set a goal and reached it by tempering responsibility and determination with compassion and hope. Curran argues that at moments of great challenge Lincoln summoned his “better angels” to enlarge the lives of others.
