Shamgar Gurevich of the University of Wisconsin–Madison speaks at MIT's Lie Groups Seminar, the mathematics department's research seminar in representation theory. Gurevich works on representations of groups over finite fields, including a notion of “rank” for them developed with Roger Howe, and has applied the same harmonic analysis to problems in signal processing.
