Writing the Body: Narratives of Illness, Disability, and Witness
Memoirist Melanie Brooks, author of A Hard Silence, leads a conversation grounded in narrative medicine about writing illness, disability and caregiving. She is joined by Alysia Abbott (Fairyland), Alex Green (A Perfect Turmoil) and Grace Talusan (The Body Papers), who take up how embodied experience becomes narrative, what responsibilities come with revealing one’s own or others’ vulnerability, and how writers can challenge stereotypes.
