House (1977)
Nobuhiko Obayashi's 1977 film sends a schoolgirl called Gorgeous and six classmates to her ailing aunt's country house, where evil spirits, a demonic house cat and a bloodthirsty piano await, all realised through mattes, animation and collage. The Criterion Collection likens it to “an episode of Scooby-Doo as directed by Mario Bava.” Shown on 35mm with Night of the Living Dead for Cult Cinema Tuesdays and the Halloween Hullabaloo.
