Gold Diggers of 1933
Mervyn LeRoy’s Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) follows out-of-work Broadway showgirls in the Depression who find hope when a wealthy songwriter backs a show for them, against his high-society brother’s wishes. Busby Berkeley staged the numbers, including “We’re in the Money” and “Remember My Forgotten Man,” with Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers. It plays in the Wednesday classics series, with vintage adverts and a serial.
