Hymns of Nature
The Wellesley Symphony Orchestra plays three works about the natural world. Missy Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) is music in the shape of a solar system; Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus, his Concerto for Birds and Orchestra, sets tape recordings of birdsong against the orchestra; and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, the Pastoral, closes the programme. Tickets are pay-what-you-can, with a reception afterwards.
