Richard P. Stanley Seminar in Combinatorics: Zilin Jiang (Arizona State University)
Zilin Jiang of Arizona State University speaks on “Unbalancing unit vectors,” a reversal of the vector-balancing problem behind the Komlós conjecture: rather than keeping a signed sum of vectors small, it asks how large one can be guaranteed. For n unit vectors in d dimensions, some choice of signs yields length at least √(2n − d), settling a conjecture of Ambrus and Nietert when n = d + 1.
