Fargo
Joel and Ethan Coen’s Fargo (1996) follows Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), a debt-ridden Minneapolis car salesman who hires two thugs (Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare) to kidnap his wife and collect the ransom from her wealthy father. When the scheme leaves a state trooper dead, the pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand, in her Oscar-winning role) takes the case. It screens in the Coolidge’s Noirvember programme.
