K'uuyemugeh: An Ancestral Tewa Center Place

· ·

Pueblo people often call their home village their center place, and apply the idea to ancestral sites. Scott Ortman combines Tewa traditional knowledge with archaeological evidence to show how K’uuyemugeh, an ancestral Pojoaque village, was one for the people living there between Tewa origins and Spanish colonization. Ortman is professor of anthropology at the University of Colorado Boulder and directs its Center for Collaborative Synthesis in Archaeology.
