Alice's Restaurant (1969)
Alice’s Restaurant (1969), Arthur Penn’s film of Arlo Guthrie’s song “The Alice’s Restaurant Massacree,” stars Guthrie as himself and was shot around Stockbridge. Real people play themselves, among them Pete Seeger and Stockbridge police chief William Obanhein. Vincent Canby of the New York Times called it “a hymn to the amazing grace of some of the most beautiful, funny and affectionate wretches.” Part of the Capitol Classics series.
