Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades
Fri Jan 29 · 7:30pm / Sun Jan 31 · 2pm
Tchaikovsky wrote The Queen of Spades in six weeks in 1890, to a libretto his brother Modest drew from Pushkin's novella about a gambler who tries to extract a card secret from an old countess. Kristine Opolais sings Lisa and David Butt Philip the obsessive Hermann; Andris Nelsons conducts this semi-staged production, closing the orchestra's Tchaikovsky cycle. Presented with Boston Lyric Opera.
