A wind-quintet programme of Gunther Schuller’s jazz-leaning Suite for Wind Quintet, Amy Beach’s Pastorale, Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles, Valerie Coleman’s Red Clay & Mississippi Delta and the sea-inspired Cargo by Matthew Tirona, the youngest of three generations of Boston composers on the bill. Five BFO players perform, and artistic director Alyssa Wang leads discussion of the music’s historical and cultural context between pieces.
