Lie Groups Seminar: Daniel Litt (University of Toronto)

· · ·

Daniel Litt of the University of Toronto speaks on “Exceptional motives and exceptional local systems,” taking up a question Serre posed in 1996. Motives with exceptional motivic Galois group are now known for every exceptional group, but families of them were missing for E6 until recently; Litt surveys the story and explains joint work with Krämer and Maculan building such E6 families from the classical geometry of cubic threefolds.
