BC-MIT Number Theory Seminar: Vesselin Dimitrov (Caltech)
Vesselin Dimitrov of Caltech reports on work with Frank Calegari and Yunqing Tang extending André's algebraicity criterion to arithmetic Gevrey series, which settles a problem Mahler raised: the distance from log n to the nearest integer is bounded below by a polynomial in 1/n. Hélène Esnault of FU Berlin follows with an overview of the arithmetic of complex local systems, which Simpson's conjectures predict are motivic.
