Paddling Through Time: The Long History of Canoes in New England
Archaeologist Robert Goodby discusses the canoes that linked Native communities across New England's watersheds for thousands of years, and what the few dozen dugouts recovered from northern New England ponds and lakes, many only recently carbon-dated, have revealed. Goodby, a professor of anthropology at Franklin Pierce University, directed the excavation of 12,000-year-old Paleoindian dwellings in Keene and wrote A Deep Presence: 13,000 Years of Native American History.
