Afternoon Lecture Series: Race, Gender, and the Salem Witch Trials

· · 132 Main St ·

Elizabeth Matelski, Distinguished Professor of History at Endicott College, looks at how race and gender shaped who was accused in Salem in 1692, and what the trials show about power and prejudice. Matelski has directed two National Endowment for the Humanities summer institutes on the trials and is researching Robin Mingo, a formerly enslaved Black man who lived in Beverly in the early 1700s.
