Roy Ward Baker's Tiger in the Smoke (1956), adapted from Margery Allingham's novel, follows war veterans turned buskers as they search fog-bound London for their vanished boss, a treasure hunt that turns into murder and flight. Donald Sinden, Muriel Pavlow and Tony Wright star; the critic Imogen Sara Smith likened its London to “a hellish procession out of Bosch.” On 35mm in Great Expectations: British Postwar Cinema, 1945–1960.
