Boston College Symphony Orchestra: Musical Source Codes
Anna Wittstruck conducts the Boston College Symphony Orchestra in Jessie Montgomery’s Source Code for string orchestra, which traces gestures from Civil Rights-era dance, song and poetry back to Black spirituals, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, in which the composer grapples with his Austro-Germanic symphonic inheritance in an anxious age of cultural and technological change. The department frames the pairing around the rise of generative artificial intelligence.
